We are excited to announce that the Carteret County Public Library System is partnering with East Carolina University (ECU) to bring the Digital Bridges Initiative to our community. This innovative program aims to improve access to technology and digital literacy resources for residents across 29 counties in eastern North Carolina. As part of the program, library patrons will be able to check out iPads and Wi-Fi hotspots—completely free of charge!

Program Highlights

  • Borrow iPads and Wi-Fi Hotspots for Free: Stay connected, apply for jobs, stream entertainment, and access essential services from home or on the go.
  • In-Person Digital Literacy Training: Learn how to use technology confidently with sessions covering:
    • Basic computer skills
    • Online safety and privacy
    • Searching for trusted information online
    • Navigating healthcare portals and telehealth services
  • Available to All Adult Library Patrons: All you need is a valid library card to check out these devices.

Why Digital Bridges Matters

This initiative is part of a broader statewide effort to close the digital divide. The program is supported by North Carolina’s first digital equity grant, which allocated $9.9 million to provide technology access and training across the state. ECU was awarded $1.39 million to lead this effort, ensuring that communities in eastern North Carolina—like ours—benefit from these critical resources.

This is an incredible opportunity to connect, learn, and grow. We look forward to seeing how you use these new resources!
