A library is more than just books—it’s a place where people come for guidance, community, and a friendly face. At the Beaufort Library, that friendly face often belongs to David Montgomery, our Circulation Technician and the well-deserved recipient of the Jaime Hicks Long Employee of the Month award for February.

David is the kind of employee who makes the library a welcoming place for everyone. Whether he’s helping a patron navigate our NC Cardinal catalog, solving a tricky technical issue for a colleague, or stepping in to assist with a heavy box of books, he does it all with kindness and without hesitation. His role as a Circulation Technician is important—he keeps materials organized, processes inventory, and handles patron accounts. These may not be the most glamorous tasks, but David approaches each one with excellence and a positive attitude.

What truly sets David apart is his genuine care for the people he serves. He knows our regular patrons by name, remembers their favorite genres, and takes the time to ask about their lives. He doesn’t just recommend books—he recommends the right books, because he listens. His patience and kindness make a difference in the everyday library experience, both for our patrons and for our team. Beyond that, his passion extends to helping with genealogy requests, guiding patrons through ancestry resources, obituaries, and microfiche archives. His dedication ensures that everyone who walks through our doors feels supported, whether they’re searching for their next great read or uncovering pieces of their family history.

Please join us in congratulating David Montgomery for this well-deserved recognition. Thank you, David, for all that you do to make the Beaufort Library a welcoming place for everyone!
