Reading Resolutions

 What Are Your Reading Resolutions?

It's a new year and you know what that means! Time for all those new year's resolutions that we all are guilty of making. We say we will exercise more, we'll eat better, make better life decisions, and all that good stuff. But how often do we actually continue those throughout the year? The answer: not that often.

But I challenge all of you reading this! Let's make a new year's resolution together to read more. Reading is one of the most relaxing tasks you can do. It gets you out of your own head and into someone else's world. It can transport you to another time and place and let you not worry about the everyday list of things that affect our world. You can travel to places like New York and California for free, or catch the Hogwarts Express and explore a magical castle.

So I challenge all of us to read more. To find books, any books, that will help you escape your head, even if it's just for a short while. Maybe you aren't a huge fan of reading and haven't yet found those books that you love. Try Graphic Novels! Then you get the best of both worlds with beautiful illustrations and an intricate story. Or try audiobooks! Maybe you need to do other things and have a book playing in the background. That counts!

I am not just saying this as a Librarian....(ok, maybe I am). But reading has been proven to provide a ton of benefits to people who do it regularly. Even if you have a book playing in the background while you play a video game.

If you need some inspiration on finding something to read, come by our branches! We love to suggest books for people. Or check out the "Rocking New Reads" tab for our new Graphic Novels and YA Fiction. There are many great options and we are here to help!

I hope you will join me in this new year's resolution. Let's prove the statistics wrong and keep it up this year! Good luck, and good reading!
